Children with unusual powers
Children with unusual powers
Folk traditions are very wise. One of them states that certain events which occurred during pregnancy or childbirth indicate that the child shall be in "grace,"
a generic term that defines those who are born with a knack for seeing
things that others can not see or cure certain diseases .
What for some people, in urban areas, is an example of superstition or
legend, to others in rural areas is the result of observation of these
events over the years.
A characteristic sign is mourn in the womb, the mother rather than hear or "feel" the child inside her womb mourns. During the eighteenth century in Spain was firmly believed that those babies who cried three times in the womb, and she kept her secret until the moment of birth-became "greeters" (some healers can heal, among other diseases, hydrophobia). Otherwise, if it was a big mouth and told his neighbors lost their unborn child "grace" bestowed by the heavens.
There are other signs that tradition ascribes the origin of "grace" and that may be accompanied by weeping, as it is born with a "veil", "mantle of the Virgin", "T", "scarf" or "bag" . It would, apparently, an unusual way to describe the envelope accompanying the child at the time of going abroad, with the membranes of the placenta or the lining, called lanugo, which protects the infant from heat loss.
Beyond this, the child or the child may have some markings on the palate are called Cruz de Caravaca or Wheel of Santa Catalina, formed by strange symbols indicate a supernatural origin, an element of magical protection. My friend Jose Antonio Iniesta, in that once wrote Witness the wonder, calls these people "the clan of the elect" in the full assurance that they possess an unusual intelligence and some special faculty. Sees in them a link, a sort of hallmark that somehow guarantee a connection to another reality.
Among the rites of birth of people in the mountains of Albacete and Cuenca, it was believed that more important to know the sex of the child was whether the creature was coming into the world was about unusual powers. And if he had, all were in luck.
And is not the first time nor the last, that some popular beliefs are ahead of scientific research. Since some studies of the "sudden death syndrome" in infants, have been obtained the first evidence of the crying baby. Karyn Donnelly, American researcher of this syndrome, discovered in late 1998 as a 32-week fetus movements performed with the chest ultrasound test you. They realized that the coordinated movement of the chest and chin quivering, was equivalent to a cry. He concluded that fetuses cry to the sound stimulation, although it also suspected in other conditions.
If true what our old traditions tell us not just mourn without these acoustic stimuli but those fetuses that do, when born, will have abilities superior to those of other children. As if they were identified or "chosen" by destiny to do something big. By the way, that pediatricians and scientists take note.
