The Ghosts of Pluckley Village
The globe is stuffed with strange and unknowable things. Ghosts and goblins,the walking dead...where ever you look there's plenty of it around to understand more about. Pluckley Village, in Kent, is said to be the most haunted village in the UK. Over the years, many kinds of spirits have been seen by both locals and tourists. The ghost of an old gypsy, wrapped in a shawl and smoking a pipe, has often been spotted standing near a bridge. The shattered remains of an old oak tree, situated nearby, is a noted haunt for the apparition of a murdered highwayman. In life, the highwayman was said to have been killed by a sword, and it was this weapon that impaled him to the tree. There are many buildings in Pluckley Village which are also reputed to be haunted. For instance, in the Church of Saint Nicholas, the spirit of Lady Dering - who was buried in three lead coffins to prevent her decay - occasionally manifests itself.
